“It’s not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain”. Lauren’s journey to get pregnant began in 2008, when she and her husband, Phil, started trying to conceive for the first time. She knew she was high risk due to her blood clotting disorder, Factor V Leiden, but otherwise she seemed perfectly capable and healthy. Little could have prepared her and Phil for what lay ahead. Growing their family would take 3 years, including recurrent miscarriages—5 losses in total. After many procedures and tests, Lauren was eventually diagnosed with a balanced translocation, affecting chromosomes 18 and 22. Thanks to amazing doctors, medical technology, and faith, Lauren and Phil were able to conceive through IVF with preimplantation genetic testing. Today, Lauren and Phil are parents to almost 9-year old twins, Reid and Evelyn. It was through a support group for women going through infertility and pregnancy loss that Lauren found her tribe during those difficult years. She’s excited to volunteer her social media marketing skills to help promote this amazing organization.
