Couples & Infertility: How Infertility Affects Relationships
Break Out Session One (Pick one topic to attend)
1. In-Vitro Fertilization: Is it For Me?
This light-hearted, yet in-depth overview of IVF will cover who should consider IVF and why, discuss the IVF process, IVF pregnancy rates, and touch on some of the most innovative treatments available today. This session is for anyone who may consider IVF as a family building option soon or in the future. The presenter is Dr. Celeste Brabec from Reproductive Resource Center. RRC is proud to be a sponsor of KCIA and has supported KCIA since its inception and inaugural Family Building Conference eight years ago.
2. The Donor Egg Decision: What You Need to Know
The founder and CEO of Pathways To Parenthood: An Egg Donor and Surrogacy Agency Kerry Christifano M.A., LCPC will discus egg donation as a family building option. She will break down important steps in the decision-making process and explain how an agency can help intended parents throughout their journey.
3. Being Labeled Infertile: How I Got Here and How I Feel About it Now.
A panel discussion of past and present KCIA support group members sharing their stories of realizing they were infertile, making peace with wearing that label, and what is has meant to them. This session will be of interest to anyone new to the infertility community seeking support and basic information about infertility from individuals who are currently living with it and who have lived through it.
Break Out Session Two (Pick one topic to attend)
1. “The IVF Laboratory: Demystified”
This session with Derica Anderson, Embryologist and Director of Laboratory Services with Blue Sky Fertility, offers a peek into what goes on behind the scenes from retrieval to transfer and beyond. This session will be of interest to anyone considering IVF, or any IVF alumni who would like to learn more about the process.
2. Adoption 101
Steffany Aye, Executive Director of Adoption & Beyond, will walk through the adoption process, offering a working understanding of the various steps and professionals involved along the way. This session will be of interest to anyone considering adoption or those who would simply like to know more as they weigh their family building options.
3. Mental Health & Coping with Infertility
Taking care of yourself in an important part of your infertility journey. Join us for a session with Jill Curtis, from the Life Enhancement Center, where she will focus on how to manage feelings such as grief, anxiety and depression. This session will be of interest to anyone needing resources to help manage the emotional side of infertility.
We will be giving away three $1,000 grants to be used towards fertility or adoption costs. You will get information about our 2018 Family Building Grant and how to apply.
